The topic of illusion in this novel is strongly based around the two peninsulas of Long Island; one of which is, East Egg. F. Scott Fitzgerald has shown that the illusion that surrounds this setting is the illusion of the American dream in the way that this setting represents the fake/false American Dream. East Egg represents a false version of the American Dream because the people who live here don’t work at all and yet they are ridiculously rich. This doesn’t work along with the values of the American Dream at all; the values of the American Dream are that if someone works hard, they should be rewarded for it. The people who dwell in East Egg have never worked a day in their life because they have come into their money through someone else. By this I mean that
