1. What was the advice given to Nick by his father? How, do you suppose, this makes him a good person to tell this story?

Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone, just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had. This makes him a good narrator because he isn’t quick to judge and he isn’t biased in his storytelling which means he doesn’t try to put ideas about the characters into your head which leaves you to form your own perspectives about the characters.

  2. How is West Egg different from East Egg? Which do you think you would rather live in and why?

West Egg is different from East Egg because it is the ‘new money’ sector which means that the occupants who live there earn/earned their money instead of inheriting it like the occupants of East Egg. The residents of West Egg are like the rich working class. I would probably like to live in East Egg because you have enough money that you don’t have to work and yet you still could/can if you choose to. Because of this, you have all the time in the world to do whatever you want which I think would be pretty cool.

  3. If you were going to pick one colour to connect with Daisy Buchanan, what colour would it be? Explain your reasoning.

White. This is because Daisy is surrounded by this colour in the book (dresses, curtains, pillows, etc.). Daisy is deceptively interesting in the way she always speaks suddenly as though to take people’s attention away from that fact.

  4. We find out that Tom has “some woman in New York.” What unflattering feature of Jordan Baker’s personality is revealed in this scene?

The unflattering feature is that she is very nosy which was shown by her eavesdropping on the phone call that Tom was taking.
